As you can tell from the pictures, even our newest member is already a hard core fan and while we had purchased a UNC hat and booties long before Camdyn arrived, we would like to thank Auntie Ashley (Mom's favorite student of all time) for the awesome Tarheels Onsie! It was wonderful to still look like a little lady while expressing her fanhood.....with not a single person mistaking her for a baby boy. And, being the superstitious bunch that we are, you can expect a repeat of the entire outfit next Saturday! GO TARHEELS!!!!!!!!!!

Go TARHEELS!!!!!!!
While most parents include first smile, first steps and first tooth in their newborn's scrapbook, we would like to officially document Camdyn's first March Madness! As Jeff likes to say, "All is right in the basketball world!" as the North Carolina Tarheels survive another round of the NCAA Tournament, and advance to the Final Four next weekend! Gamma and Pop Pop were in town to help us cheer on our team and every member of the Weer family is estatic that we have at least 1 more week of college basketball ahead!!!!

Our First Family Holiday
Although we may be a few years away from coloring eggs and getting out the Easter basket, Mom and Dad were excited to celebrate their first official holiday as a family! Since Grandma and Grandpa were out of town, Camdyn and crew were headed to Uncle Hans's house for an Easter brunch and some NCAA basketball....but only after we put on our very first dress (thank you Auntie Jill) and headed to Church!
After a strategy session in the parking lot, Mom and Dad decided that at the first sign of a meltdown we would politely exit the building, refusing to be that family that ruined the service for everyone....we are proud to say we made it approximately 25 minutes, and to about the first 3 words of the actual message, before Camdyn was ready to exercise those lungs! Needlesss to say, we tried and hope God understands our good intentions!
Here are a few photos from the day. We realized we haven't been doing so well on the family pictures, so thankfully Uncle Hans was willing to play photographer. We tried to get an awake picture in her Easter dress, but as soon as we left Church, she suddenly was ready for another nap....funny how that works. As you can see by her hands, our little drama queen was totally exhausted from her morning of being beautiful and is probably thankful that the next holiday is a few months away!

The Bluest Eyes?!?!?!
In past postings I have mentioned that both Jeff and I could literally spend hours just staring at our little lady with awe and amazement and contemplate how two people like us could produce such a piece of absolute perfection! Our latest game involves looking at each tiny detail and trying to decide whether it is a trait from Mom, a trait from Dad, or some crazy combination of us both....and believe me, no detail is too tiny. For example, a little known fact about Jeff is how his pinky toe on both feet wraps behind all his other toes. While this "missing toe" look has always bothered him a bit, now that Camdyn shares this trait you would think it was the most sought after foot feature in the world! Mom was simply excited she had a reason to post a picture of perhaps the cutest little wrinkly foot ever!

The trait that is exciting Mom the most however, is Camdyn's slowly changing eye color. Being the nerdy biologist that I am, I had traced eye-color back through the Weer generations and sketched out an embarassing number of Punnett Squares trying to find the odds of the Schmidt eyes making their way into our child's DNA. Alas, no matter how hard I tried to mess with genetics, it seemed impossible for Jeff and I to produce a blue-eyed baby. However, as Camdyn's grey baby eyes begin to lighten, it appears they are turning BLUE!!!! Although the doctor told me not to get excited since eye color is not set until around 1 year of age (yes, I asked the doctor), the mere possiblity of the bluest eyes has Mom and Dad checking their progress each and every morning when Camdyn is bright-eyed and ready to go.....she is definitely a mini morning person in the making!
Due to an intense flash, it is hard to capture Camdyn with her eyes open, much less to determine their changing color, but since so many of you have questioned that she even has eyes, I wanted to include a few recent pictures!

Serious About Her New Role......
While we shared the typical concerns and challenges of most new parents, the Weer Family had an additional insecurity when it came to bringing home the newest member of our crew.....how to introduce Baby Camdyn to Barley. As most of you know, for the past 5 years Barley has been the center of her Mom and Dad's world. Four years ago when Jeff and Maria started dating, Barley was not shy in showing her trepidation when it came to sharing the love of her family members, by promptly peeing on Maria's down comforter the first time she stayed over for a visit......with this past experience in mind, we knew we needed to prepare!
After reading several articles on the subject (yes, apparently others have shared this dilemma), and even discussing the topic with our Birthing class instructor, we took several steps to acclimate Barley to the changes that were about to undermine the life she had come to know and love.
Despite our fears, Barley has actually welcomed the role of "Big Sister" with open paws. Not only does she come running at the first whimper when Camdyn is waking, she loves to simply sit and watch her sleep....lately she has even taking to sharing a few snoozes together.....I think Barley has decided that she and Camdyn have much more in common in their daily rountine than she could have ever imagined!

One Popular Little Lady
In a mere week, Camdyn has proved to be more popular than Jeff and I EVER were...funny how many people crawl out of the woodwork when a baby arrives! 8) For three days in a row we have been blessed with HUGE bundles of mail, daily visits from the UPS and FED EX Drivers, a telephone that never seems to cease ringing and a revolving front door! Don't get me wrong.....it has been absolutely wonderful!!!! Mom and Dad are definitely reaping the benefits of Camdyn fans from around the country. Thought you would like to see some first visit photos.....we CAN'T wait for Gamma and Pop-Pop to fly in next week, so Jeff's family can have a turn in front of the camera! In the meantime, THANK YOU all for everything..... and though I am usually way on top of stuff, official thank you notes will make their way to your mailboxes soon.......seem to continually be put off each day as I pass hours just staring at and showing off our beautiful little lady.

The Perfect Little Package!
After promises of an early arrival, rushing to get everything done and running around trying to get a sub so I could start maternity leave a full week earlier than originally planned, we literally had nothing to do but sit and wait..and wait... and wait! Just when we thought we would go crazy, on Wednesday our Doctor agreed to an induction that was scheduled for 6:00 am March 6th.
However, much like her Momma, Camdyn wanted everyone to know that she was in control and no one else would be setting her schedule! Contractions started about 3 hours after our Doctor's appointment, and by the time I would have just been starting the induction process, she had already introduced herself to her anxious parents.....and again like mom, entered the room with more energy and enthusiasm than most people can muster (or even handle) before 7:30 am!
So....here is our little lady during her first 48 hours in her new world! Both baby and Mom were doing so well, they let us sneak home after only 32 hours in the hospital, and due to our teeny, tiny little room, we couldn't have been happier to make our way to the comforts of home!
I will be getting more pictures up soon....of visitors and mini-milestones....but as you moms know, we are suddenly working on a tight schedule, that definitely isn't ours!
