Back to School...........

As both a student and a teacher, September has always been an exciting month! I truly love Back-to-School time in all of its sharpened pencil, school-shopping, back on a schedule glory. However, this year is a bit of a struggle. After a wonderful year off with little Ms. Camdyn, this mommy is headed back to the classroom, and even though I will only be teaching part-time, it still meant finding care for beloved kiddo!
Seeing that today was our official "interview" with our new sitter, we took extra care in getting ready for the day and although the woman was wonderful, the environment and small number of children perfect, and Camdyn seemed entranced by an extensive array of musical instruments...the entire experience was traumatic, to say the least, for this work/child torn momma. I know if is only 24 hours per week, and I promised myself I would not be one of those "clingy" mothers....but seriously, the first day of kindergarten, senior year and college-graduation are flashing before me eyes!

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

It was truly a girls only weekend, as Aunt Heidi, Ashley, Camdyn and I headed to the tri-cities to shop till we drop! Heidi and Ashley were kind enough to invite us on their annual Back-to-School Shopping spree and we couldn't have had a better time while being along for the ride. Camdyn loved the relaxed, vacationing Mommy that let her stay up late, consume lots of french fries, swim without a life jacket, shop for toys at Target and eat plenty of sweets. More than her laid-back Momma however, this trip only heightened our absolute OBSESSION with cousin Ashley! Here are our little shopping divas all smiles after a lunch break at PF Changs. Thanks girls for a fabulous weekend!

When All Else Fails............

Call in the cousins!!!! After hours of trying to make my teething toddler happy, a quick visit from Ashely and Malachi provided instantaneous relief. Apparently, sometimes boring, old Mom just isn't enough!

Go Big or Go Home.......

If you are going to enjoy one of your first hot dogs, why not do so in style?!?!? While accompanying Mom on a work event this weekend, the only toddler-friendly food available seemed to be a hot dog fresh from the grill.....toddler-friendly until we saw the immense size! Although Camdyn wasn't too sold on the taste, she definitely enjoyed toting it around for the majority of the lunch hour....not to mention posing for some random pictures that just couldn't quite capture the moment!

Please ignore the large red spots on her cheeks....2 yellow jackets seemed to find my sweet little girl irresistible.

Change is Good.......

It is hard not to be inspired by the amazing blogs of my friends...not to mention their favorite links. I am slowly going to start exploring my options and adding a few changes or two.....if you are a blog guru with too much time on your hands, I would love any advice I can get......stay tuned.

G is for Geologist

Camdyn's obsession with rocks lives on, and last weekend Mom decided to add fuel to the fire. During our huckleberry picking mission in the mountains we decided to picnic along the river. Although the FREEZING water temperatures made Mom's feet ache after only 2 minutes of wading, Camdyn braved the chilly stream for over an hour, literally leaving no stone unturned. We collected a few of our favorites to bring home and add to our ever growing collection......I definitely sense a geology major in our future!

Promises Made, Promises Broken......Promises Made Again

Funny how before you actually have a kid there is a list a mile-long of what you "will never allow to happen when you have children." I am now willing to admit, that the large majority of items on my mental check-list have long been cast aside....tripping over a toddler toy in my house is highly likely, breakfast is usually eaten while watching The Wonder Pets rather than CNN, and I am fully aware that Camdyn's face is dirty 98.9% of the time....however, I had managed to hold onto the "not having food in the car seat rule" for quite sometime. Sure, on drives to Portland, we have bent the rules just a bit, but for the most part, my goal of not having cheerios mashed into the upholstery had been met........until yesterday that is.

Temperature near 100, leaving an afternoon of playing with her cousins, no snack for hours, and a teething toddler had all led to continuous shrill crying in the car on the way home from my sister's house. In order to maintain my sanity, I dug through the diaper bag and found a half-eaten bag of fruit snacks. Having just read an article in a parent magazine naming fruit snacks as a "go to, mess-free, car snack," I caved. Handed Camdyn the package over my shoulder, I continued to drive home without a sound...until we got home, I turned around, and created a few shrill, crying sounds of my own....believe me, the pictures simply cannot do it justice. I think a letter to the editor of that magazine may be in order.
