It is funny how one's life can be portrayed in pictures. More than once I have been told how ideal our life looks via the blog....how we are always having fun little family adventures, both kids always posing for the camera with mom and dad proudly in tow.....well, while I know we are blessed, I decided perhaps it was time to include both the "blog version" and the "real version" of our latest little escapade.
"Blog Version"
Now that fire season is in full swing, more often than not Mom and her girls are flying solo......or traveling with our bestest friends Courtney and Jonah. Sunday we decided to head up to one of our most favorite beautiful places for a quick hike, yummy picnic and a dip in the river! While Courtney and I enjoyed the view from our lawn chairs, Jonah and Camdyn (armed with measuring cups) busily attempted to build a lake of their own, while Lilly seemed to love just hanging out by the river!
"Reality"
Now that fire season is in full swing, Mom has no idea how she is going to survive as a single mom for fourteen days at a time without losing her sanity. Since she knows misery loves company, she calls up her friend Courtney (whose husband works with Jeff), so that perhaps together they can handle the chaos of two toddlers, just as many yellow labs, and an infant. For some silly reason, they decide that a 1/4 mile hike and outdoor picnic would be a great way to kill several hours......so armed with bug spray and sunscreen they head to the woods.
Upon unloading the car, they realize that even the short hike is quite ambitious when toting lawn chairs, picnic coolers, life jackets, bumpo chairs, diapers bags, baby and dogs.....let alone Courtney is nearly nine months pregnant...but alas, they arrive. Now for the highlights merely "forgotten" for the blog version:
*Since neither of us had been to the grocery store, our picnic was comprised of animal crackers, ritz crackers, frozen peas and a fruit roll
*While Lilly very much enjoyed the view, she also enjoyed eating vast amounts of sand...which I am still finding lodged in every crevice on her body
*Jonah's poopy swim diaper....no wait, we forgot the swim diapers....so pretty much just poop in a suit
*The 45 minute drive, and 30 minute trip down to the beach, when less than an hour later, both kids announce..no wait scream....they were ready to go home
*Camdyn's total melt down on the hike out, resulting in her lying rigid across the trail screaming and refusing to move....leading to a very pregnant Courtney walking back to the car and returning to take my load so I could wrangle my screaming toddler into our Outback
Rest assure people....sometimes you are happy that you don't hear the thousand words behind the picture!
